Dorothy Cowlin was a British novelist, columnist, and poet whose output spanned seven decades and was often strongly linked to the area around her home in North Yorkshire. More details on her life and work can be found on Wikipedia.

For places to start, The Sound Of Rain has been featured on Radio 4's Poetry Please, Penine Tunnel won a competition run by Yorkshire Television's Calendar programme in 1994 (watch here), and In Cloughton Bay won a National Trust competition to commemorate the bi-centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
